What To Know Before Acupuncture: 3 Facts
Acupuncture has been getting famous in North America for being an effective treatment for a variety of different conditions, but what should you know before starting your acupuncture treatments?
Though North America has only known about it since the 1970s, acupuncture is a part of the only traditional healing system that is cohesive, backed by modern research and continues to gain popularity in current times.
When people come to our clinic for their first appointment, they have usually heard we can help them with their problem. But they don’t know what they will need to know in order to achieve desirable results.
This blog post will outline three facts that you should know prior to starting treatments. Keeping these in mind will allow you to achieve the best possible results while making the most of this holistic treatment.
What to know before acupuncture: You are going to need more than one treatment.
This fact surprises clients the most when they come into my office (and their surprise is what also surprises ME the most). Though, holding the one-treatment cure for chronic pain and ailments would probably make me wealthy and famous.
For acupuncture treatment to be effective for you, you need the correct acupuncture dosage.
This means, receiving the right amount of treatment within the proper time frame. For instance, limiting yourself to six treatments once a month will have way different results than having the same amount of treatments but weekly.
Several factors will influence the frequency of visits you will need. This includes the problems or ailments you are looking to treat. Your lifestyle and treatment goals also play a factor in this.
During your first treatment, we will do a complete health evaluation to get to know YOU and clarify what you want to accomplish with acupuncture treatment. Using our experience and clinical training, we will make sure to formulate a treatment plan and schedule of care, so you get the proper acupuncture dosage to reach your wellness goals.
Acupuncture is a cumulative treatment.
Cumulative treatment means each acupuncture treatment builds on the last, and its effects become stronger over time.
Clinical studies show when people finish a proper schedule of acupuncture care, the results of treatment continue to last at up to six months after treatment ends. It is essential to keep to your visits and make sure you maintain the proper amount of days between treatments to create sufficient momentum to boost your body’s natural ability to heal itself.
In short, keeping your schedule of care is vital for you to get the best results possible.
There are different phases to acupuncture treatment
Acupuncture treatment is both therapeutic and diagnostic. As we see how you respond to treatment, we can make a more accurate assessment of how many treatments you will need to see the improvement you want.
In general, there are three phases to the treatment process:
Phase 1: We initiate improvement in your symptoms.
Phase 2: We build on our progress and take it to the maximum therapeutic benefit.
Phase 3: We make sure the progress is as stable and as lasting as possible.
Our clinical experience indicates that patients respond to treatment in different ways. What happens during a course of treatment looks different for each person.
Some patients in our care experience a steady improvement, consistently seeing results after each treatment and improving incrementally over time. Others may get only a modest improvement after a few treatments and must work diligently to gain momentum. Still, others find their condition seems more severe. However, this is usually a positive indication of progress as things start to change and move. All of the above examples are entirely normal during the treatment process.
If you have tried acupuncture in the past and it hasn’t worked for you, it may have been that you did not have the proper treatment plan.
When it comes to healing, I think a person needs to find the path that works for them and the right guide to lead and educate them down that path. Acupuncture is a fantastic treatment option that is both safe and effective.
